GENERAL ASSISTANCE
Every Town in Maine has a General Assistance program that helps people in need who have no other resources. Assistance is provided for basic necessities, such as affordable housing, utilities, and food. Eddington General Assistance is available to Eddington residents only.
Applications are taken by appointment with the General Assistance Administrator (Theresa Clair). The hours for appointments are Monday-Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm by calling the Town Office @(207)843-5233. In an emergency that occurs after business hours, you may contact Theresa @(207)944-025. The Administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving completed application.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE NOTICE
The Town of Eddington administers a General Assistance program, pursuant to Title 22 MRSA(4305). The Town has adopted an ordinance establishing that program. A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at 906 Main Road, Edington, ME. Also available for inspection is a copy of the State of Maine general assistance statutes.
The General Assistance program must take an application for persons/households who wish to apply for General Assistance. The general assistance worker must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application. Applications are taken at the following time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-3:00pm. The municipality is required to have a representative available 24 hours a day to handle emergency applications. If you are in an emergency situation after office hours, contact Theresa Clair at (207)944-0925. If the municipality refuses to take your application or if you are denied assistance and/or have questions, call the Department of Human Services General Assistance Hotline toll free at 1-800-442-6003, Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. If you call after 5:00pm, leave a message with the phone number and you will be contacted the next business day.
