Getting Married Soon? Please call to make an appointment to apply for your license, and try to have both parties together at the same time. The application process can take up to an hour, so please try to plan ahead. Our Office closes at 4:00 p.m. daily and sometimes the last hour is our busiest one. I would suggest not waiting to apply until the day of, or the day before your ceremony. Give yourself (and us) some leeway in case more information or paperwork is needed, system is down or not cooperating, etc. Licenses are $40.00 and will need to be paid when the intentions are filed.
If either of you have been married before, you will need to show proof of how the last marriage ended. Divorce Papers (with raised seal, that is dated and signed from the judge or court clerk), Death Certificate, etc.
Below is a link to the States Vital Statistics Website - Click on the Link, scroll down to MARRIAGE FORMS & INFO (4th section down) and Click on the VS2-A (PDF) to get the Intentions done at your convenience, which will cut down time at the office. If you have any questions, please call Theresa Clair @207.843.5233, she is the person who issues the licenses.
